Gachagua warns IEBC ahead of 2027 elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made an appeal to the incoming Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners ahead of the 2027 polls.
In a candid interview at his Wamunyoro home on Friday, May 16, 2025, Gachagua urged the incoming commissioners to be patriotic, noting that any attempt to force a candidate onto Kenyans will be resisted.
“I want to implore those commissioners to be Kenyans, to be patriotic, and not to attempt to force William Ruto on the people of Kenya. It will not work, and the people of Kenya will not accept it,” Gachagua said.
Gen Z factor
“People want change, and they are ready for change; indeed, they are impatient that 2027 is too far away. The mood in the country is that if the IEBC tries to mess with the elections, there would be no country here; 2007 would look like a Christmas party,” Gachagua warned.
He indicated that the Gen Z wave is an unstoppable movement that will ensure that Ruto is made a one-term president after the 2027 elections.

“This Gen Z group is lethal; this group is not tribal, cannot be compromised, cannot be bribed with Ksh200, and I have now confirmed that they have actually taken identity cards and are going to register as voters,” the former DP added.
Ruto urges end to politics
This came just hours after President William Ruto, while on a development tour at the coast, urged his opponents to focus on delivering their promises to Kenyans, noting that the time for politicking will come.
“Utakuja wakati wa uchaguzi na nyinyi wananchi ni mafundi wa kura, nyinyi ndio mtajua na siku hiyo hakuna mtu atapata kura kwa sababu alikuwa na matusi mengi. Mtu atapewa kura kwa sababu kuna kazi amefanya na inaonekana na wananchi. Wakati huo tutashughulika na siasa. Wakati huu tushugulikie maendeleo. Katika umoja unapatika maendeleo ya wananchi,” Ruto said at the Galana-Kulalu irrigation scheme on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Loosely translated to: (When the time for campaigns begins, all of you will determine because you are the masters of voting. People shall be voted in or out based on the work they have done for you and not the number of insults spewed. During that time, we shall engage in a political contest, but for now, let us focus on delivering on our mandate.)
Gachagua has launched his Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party, which he seeks to consolidate the Mount Kenya region voting bastion as he seeks valuable alliances from disgruntled leaders of opposition parties in the country.
