Mathira MP Wamumbi will not get more than 500 votes in 2027 – Gachagua
By Steve Ireri, September 13, 2025Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly warned residents of Mathira to withhold support from their current MP, Eric Wamumbi, describing him as a betrayer of the region and the Kikuyu community.
Speaking in Karatina town on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Gachagua admitted that he had previously endorsed leaders who did not live up to expectations and vowed not to repeat such mistakes in the future.

“I want you all to forgive me for having made you believe back then that Ruto is a good person. But I will not repeat that mistake. Again, my people at home, I have made many mistakes because there is another MP here whom I brought to you and asked you to support,” he said.

He emphasised that moving forward, the people of Mathira will have the power to choose their own representatives, and he will no longer promote candidates on their behalf.
“I will never bring someone else again and beg you to endorse them, no. from now on, it is you who will choose,” he added.

Gachagua stated that Wamumbi’s actions have been a betrayal of the constituency and the wider community.
He insisted that he should be sent home and prevented from receiving significant support in the 2027 elections, specifically noting that he should not surpass 500 votes.
“That MP has betrayed Mathira. He has betrayed our people. He should go home. That MP should even be sent home now. I am asking that this MP, because of betraying the people of Mathira and our Kikuyu community, should not get more than 500 votes,” Gachagua added.
In addition, Gachagua extended his criticism to President William Ruto, saying that his only desire is to see him serve only a single term.
He connected this stance to his broader concerns about political leadership and accountability, stressing that both the MP and the president have failed to act in the best interest of the people.
“That Ruto should also go home. That betraying MP and Ruto should leave together. We want Ruto to serve only one term as president,” Gachagua added.
