Gachagua makes special plea to Gen Zs and Millennials ahead of 2027 polls
By Ascah Mwango, March 9, 2025Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again called on young Kenyans to register as voters in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a church service in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Gachagua emphasized the power of numbers in politics, urging the youth to take action beyond social media activism.
He pointed out that politics is fundamentally about numbers, assuring his audience that the numbers are in their favour if they take part in the electoral process.
He encouraged Gen Zs and Millennials to acquire national identity cards and register as voters, reminding them that while their efforts on social media are valuable, the real impact will come from participating in elections.
“I want to assure you the numbers are good, politics is a game of mathematics. I would be worried if politics were defined differently. Kenyans have told us to bring them a formula na tunaendelea. Na siku ikifika, Gen Zs and millennial wajiandikishe. Register as voters. These young people are our solution. As much as you are doing a good job on the smart phones, the real job is still coming. You must take IDs and register as voters,” Gachagua directed.
Gachagua on upcoming elections
This is not the first time Gachagua has reached out to young Kenyans on the importance of voter registration. During a TikTok Live session on January 23, 2025, hosted by Kuira Wa Kabiru, a popular digital content creator based abroad, he praised the youth for using social media to hold leaders accountable.
“Social media is a revolution. Long ago, with KBC, you could censor news and only let people know what you wanted them to know. Today, even if you bribe the mainstream media, social media will air it,” he added.

He acknowledged the significant shift in media influence, noting that in the past, traditional media outlets controlled narratives, but now, digital platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) have empowered people to share information freely, making it difficult for anyone to manipulate public opinion.
Gachagua commended the younger generation for their role in demanding accountability from leaders. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in their activism despite facing criticism, stressing that they should not be intimidated for exercising their democratic rights.
He also reiterated the crucial role young people have in shaping the future of Kenya. While appreciating their efforts in advocating for change online, he urged them to take the next step by registering as voters. He reminded them that their participation in elections would determine the destiny of the country and thanked them for their patriotism.
“I want to tell the Gen Zs that I love you very much, and whatever you are doing on the online spaces to bring transformative spaces is not enough, you have a date with destiny. You have so much to do. I want to plead with you to register as voters. You are the ones to bring change. Gen Zs and millennials are the ones to determine the destiny of our country. Thank you for your patriotism,” Gachagua stated.
