Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, March 29, 2025, responded to Chief Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri’s warning against ‘Ruto Must Go’ chants.

Speaking in Naivasha, where he attended the consecration and installation ceremony for the Reverend Harrison Munyua at Redeemed Church, Gachagua warned Kahariri against dragging KDF into politics.

Addressing the residents, Gachagua noted that KDF has earned respect since its independence and argued that recent Kahariri’s remarks risk eroding the military’s principles.

Tungetaka kuambia mkuu wa majeshi, General Kahariri, wewe ni mtoto wetu wa nyumbani (We would like to tell KDF boss, General Kahariri, you are one of our children), Please, the military is a respected organisation in this country because it has conducted itself professionally since independence.

“It is the only institution that the people of Kenya trust. Please, usilete siasa kwa mambo ya majeshi. Majeshi kazi yao ni kulinda Kenya from external threats (Please do not bring politics in KDF. Their job is protecting the country from external threats),” Gachagua stated.

You cannot save Ruto

While warning the KDF boss, Gachagua further opined that even with his involvement, President William Ruto cannot be salvaged.

He further clarified that the ‘Ruto Must Go’ chants are not aimed at overthrowing the Kenya Kwanza government but to prepare it for the potential defeat in the 2027 polls.

Ata ukijaribu kusaidia William Ruto mahali mambo yake imefika general, huwezi msaidia ( Even if you try to help Ruto, he is finished)

For your information, hio Ruto must go si kusema ati atalolewe ofisi kinyume ya sheria, no it is a clarion call in preparation for the general elections. Ruto atatolewa kikatiba na uchaguzi wa 2027 (For your information, ‘Ruto Must Go’ is not saying that he should be removed in office contrary to the prescribed rules, no it is a clarion call in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Ruto will be defeated in the 2027 polls,” he insisted.

Kahariri’s warning

This came after Kahariri and National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss Noordin Haji stated that any attempts to transfer power must be made through acceptable means, lest Kenyans risk destroying the country.

“We cannot exercise anarchy, and even as people exercise their rights, it should be within their bounds, within their rights, such that we cannot allow ourselves to exercise our rights to the extent of tearing apart the country,” Kahariri stated.

“We, as the military, defend the Constitution and the government of the day, duly elected by the people. So when you decide that you are tired of the government you elected and then you start chanting ‘Must Go’, ‘Must Go’, that ‘Must Go’ must be done according to the Constitution,” Kahariri warned.
