Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua spent his early Sunday morning walking in Hombe Forest, part of the Mount Kenya ecosystem.

Accompanied by his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, the Deputy President described the early morning walk as refreshing.

Rigathi’s thoughts

He emphasized the importance of forests, highlighting that their immediate reward is frequent rain, which leads to food security and improved quality of life.

“The immediate reward of growing and maintaining forests is good and frequent rain, which is the source of sustained food security and generally, improved quality of life,” he stated in his social media post.

“This morning’s walk with my wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi in the Hombe Forest, which is part of the Mt Kenya Ecosystem, was highly refreshing, marked with mist and fragrances of fog hovering over the green canopies of towering trees that are now a secure and serene home to beautiful birds and other animals. It was a moment of reconnecting with nature,” he added.

He concluded by stating that the future of the country relied on growing more trees and maintaining ecosystems.

“Indeed, the future of our country lies in not only growing more trees but also maintaining the existing ecosystems,” he said.
