FKF lauds Ruto’s support for Harambee Stars’ CHAN campaign
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has expressed deep appreciation for President William Ruto’s support for Harambee Stars as they compete in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).
In a statement posted on their official X account on August 11, 2025, FKF acknowledged Ruto’s recent financial incentives to the team, linking the rewards to the squad’s strong performances in their first three CHAN matches.
“We are deeply grateful to the Government, led by H.E. President William Ruto, for the support to our national team Harambee Stars,” the federation stated.
According to FKF, the president’s gestures have motivated the players to perform at their highest level throughout the tournament.
“Your gesture today, and the promise of even greater support ahead, inspires the players and unites the nation behind them. The journey continues,” the statement added.
Ruto’s Ksh2.5M promise
FKF statement comes hours after Ruto pledged that each Harambee Stars player would receive Ksh2.5 million if they defeat Zambia in their upcoming match scheduled for Sunday, August 17, 2025.
“We’ve also agreed on rewards: A win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player Ksh2.5 million,” President Ruto posted on his X account.

Ruto further commended the team’s spirit and emphasised unity as a key driver for Kenya’s progress.
“Unity has always propelled us forward. We must never allow negativity, failure, or doubt to prevent us from reaching our full potential. If we believe in ourselves and refuse to let division or hate enter the equation, Kenya can become the great nation we all dream of,” he said.
According to Ruto, Harambee Stars exemplify the power of unity in the country.
“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. They have brought the country together, and we are all witnessing the success it is bringing to the nation. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach,” he added.
So far, the Harambee Stars players have received Ksh1 million each for their victory over DR Congo, Ksh500,000 each after a draw with Angola, and another Ksh1 million per player following their recent 1-0 win against Morocco.
