Director Trevor has weighed in on the controversy surrounding content creator Mungai Eve, saying she should consider apologising to her fans after her remarks about dating men who earn less than Ksh500,000 sparked backlash.

The outspoken director said in a YouTube video on Thursday, September 4, 2025, that Eve’s words, which many interpreted as condescending, left fans feeling disrespected and alienated.

According to Trevor, her biggest mistake was not the podcast discussion itself, but the impression it created—that she views herself as superior to the very audience that built her brand.

Trevor calls for a public apology

Speaking in the interview, Trevor insisted that the only way forward for Eve is to face her audience directly and apologise. “I believe she alone has the solution. And the solution is very simple: she should come out, speak to Kenyans, ask for forgiveness, and say she is ready to do better. Now that she understands how the industry works, that is the only option,” he explained.

Trevor acknowledged that the viral clip did not reflect Eve’s true character, describing her as someone who would not ordinarily make such statements.

“If you know her, you will know that she can’t say those words. Sixty per cent of reasonable people who watched that video saw that it is not her,” he said, suggesting that her remarks may have been misinterpreted or taken out of context.

Fans felt looked down upon

Nonetheless, Trevor admitted that the impact of her words was undeniable. By suggesting she could not date a man earning below half a million shillings per month, Eve unintentionally made many of her followers feel looked down upon.

“The mistake she made was to show Kenyans that she is better than they are. How many men can afford that kind of money? What are you trying to show us?” he posed.

Trevor warned that careless statements in the digital space often carry lasting consequences, especially for public figures whose livelihoods depend on their audiences. “The things that people say out here, they don’t know the harm it causes,” he noted.
