DCP secretary says Rose Njeri is the hero of Finance Bill 2025

Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party Secretary for Planning and Economic Affairs Peter Mbae has hailed web developer Rose Njeri as the hero of the Finance Bill of 2025.
Speaking during a breakfast TV show on Thursday, June 5, 2025, Mbae indicated that the state was incensed by Njeri’s proactivity to get the information out to the public.
“How do you keep somebody in a police cell if they know something that we do not know? Right now, anybody who is a voter knows that there are issues in the Finance Bill 2025, and it cannot pass the way it is,” Mbae stated.
Proper hearing
“Rose Njeri should be called and given a proper hearing before the media to go and face the Finance and Planning committee and give her input. She should make all the information collected public because right now, she is the hero of the Finance Bill 2025.”
Mbae challenged the government to stay ahead of the communication curve, noting that they are the originators of the bill and therefore should offer transparent explanations on the suggested revenue-generation measures proposed.

“The government said they were not going to add any taxes, but when we go through the bill, we see intentions to pile up,” Mbae observed.
“The moment people begin being sharper than you, and because you are not giving them information, they go dig it up and confront you with it, you begin losing it. Government communication must be deliberate, intentional and ahead.”
Scrutiny of Finance Bill
“If you see the government trying to squeeze the rights of young people to talk about something, then you know that there is something hidden in the Finance Bill.
Njeri was arrested on Friday, May 30, 2025, and detained at the Pangani Police Station before she was presented in court on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and released on a personal bond of Ksh100,000.

The software developer was presented in court in connection with setting up an app which directed emails to the Clerk of the National Assembly in regards to the ongoing public participation on the Finance Bill of 2025.
She was represented by a team of lawyers, including the former Chief Justice Maraga, who argued that the accusations levelled against her lacked a clear legal foundation and infringed upon her rights as a citizen.
Maraga also observed that Njeri should be hailed for assisting the government to obtain views on the proposed Finance Bill of 2025.
