The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin, has pleaded with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to follow the right channels and report the matter of threats to his life to the police for investigations.

Speaking on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Amin reiterated the past sentiments made by the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, who urged the former DP to report the matter to the relevant authorities.

Amin warned the former DP against playing out the matter in the media, stating that the police are ready to handle his case.

“If the former has an issue in a matter concerning a threat to his life and property, he should go and report to the police station and not engage himself in media theatrics,” Amin stated.

Amin further emphasized the police unit’s readiness to engage Gachagua as a citizen entitled to the rights enshrined in the Kenyan constitution.

“Any report coming to the police will be investigated to its logical conclusion. I associate my sentiments fully with the sentiments of the IG and encourage him to report the matter to the police. He will be treated and assisted just like any other citizen of the country,” Amin added.

Amin’s plea comes after the impeached Deputy President wrote to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, claiming that his life is in danger.

In a letter dated Tuesday, April 15, 2025, titled ‘Assassination Attempts and Violence Against My Life’, the former DP pointed out various instances where he says he was targeted.

In the letter, Gachagua detailed two incidents where he claimed his life was targeted.

One incident was on November 28, 2024, when he was attacked and his vehicle was destroyed while attending a funeral in Limuru.

He also mentioned an occurrence on December 28, 2024 in Shamata, Nyandarua County, where a teargas canister was lobbed at a function he attended.

The politician wondered why the person arrested during the incident was never disciplined.

In a rejoinder dated Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the National Police Service spokesperson, Muchiri Nyaga, reiterated its role in promoting and safeguarding national security, ensuring the safety of all Kenyans as outlined under Article 244(c) of the Constitution.

“The attention of the National Police Service (NPS) has been drawn to a letter supposedly written by the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, regarding alleged failure by the police to provide him with security,” the statement reads in part.

“In light of Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures, and notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements.”
