Court issues warrant of arrest for woman who was nabbed manufacturing fake alcohol using raw spirit

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi has issued a warrant of arrest to a woman who has charged with the offence of manufacturing over 180 vodka alcoholic drinks using raw spirit without a licence.

The court issued the warrant of arrest after Maryanne failed to appear in court for plea taking.

Maryanne Wanjiku Kamau who was arrested on June 18, 2021, at Gatanga area in Rongai in Kajiado County was found manufacturing excisable goods with 64 bottles (250ml) of blue ice vodka,30 bottles of Konyagi, 27 bottles of Kibao vodka, 22 bottles of crome vodka,14 bottles of people vodka,7 bottles of Dallas gin,4 bottles of Napoleon,5 bottles of kenya cane ,1 bottle of blue ice vodka alcoholic drinks without excise licence all valued at Sh40,600.

Maryanne is also charged with being in possession of counterfeit excise stamps contrary to the law.

“Maryanne Wanjiku Kamau on June 18, 2021, at Gataka area in Rongai kajiado county jointly with others not before court you were found in possession of 1100 pieces of counterfeit excise stamps valued at sh1650 in contravention of the said act,” read the charge sheet.

While acting on intelligence report in conjunction with KRA officials, DCI detectives raided her premise where they managed to recover the assorted counterfeited products.

The ready alcoholic drinks were fixed with counterfeit KRA stamps which were examined by KRA officials and found to be fake. An inventory was prepared and signed by both teams and the suspect at the scene. The products were then escorted to DCI headquarters for safe custody. 

The magistrate has ordered the ksh50,000 police bond that Maryanne was issued by police at Rongai police station after arresting her to be forfeited to the state.
