Court burst into laughter after a Pakistani questioned why the prosecution is denying him bail while Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is walking free in an attempted murder charge.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate R.K Ondieki, Mohammed Adnan Tahir who is charged with obtaining goods worth Ksh10 million shocked the court when he mentioned the name of the legislator claiming that he shot someone but he’s walking free.

“Sir, why is the prosecution objecting to my release on bail? This guy Babu Owino shot someone on the neck and he is still walking free,” Muhammad lamented.

He further pleaded for leniency claiming that he is married to a Kenyan hence not a flight risk

The prosecution through state counsel Patience Bange, however, objected to the release of the accused on bail saying he has three passports which makes him a flight risk.

According to the charge sheet, Muhammad is alleged to have obtained 2165 bags of diapers valued at Ksh4.8M and at the same time obtained 1900 pieces of water dispensers and stands valued at Ksh5.5 M; property of New Be company limited.

It’s alleged that he committed the said offence on diverse dates of March 2018 at New Be company Limited in Embakasi area within Nairobi county being the director of ASQAM Merchandising Company limited.

The court will give a ruling on bail or bond on February 22, 2022.
