A section of religious leaders have condemned Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi following his recent claims on his son’s abduction.

Addressing the media on Friday, January 17, 2025, the clerics led by Nairobi Clergy Association Chairman Vitalis Okwach strongly chastised the CS noting that his remarks were reckless and inappropriate.

They also questioned his silence on the thorny issue of abductions during his stint as the country’s Attorney General.

“It is deeply concerning that Mr Muturi during his tenure as the Attorney General, a key member of the national security council, chose not to raise the matter in the appropriate forums where national security concerns are deliberated,” he said.

Similarly, a section of youth leaders from the Mount Kenya region also criticized CS Muturi, saying the move was a well-calculated plot to retain political mileage.

As they watered down his allegations, the youthful citizens claimed that the timing and tone of Muturi’s sentiments were insincere.

“If this incident indeed occurred why wait for this long to speak especially given the gravity of the matter? The timing and the tone of his remarks raises questions about the sincerity of his intention suggesting a calculated move to retain political mileage,” they said.

Muturi’s explosive

Muturi had claimed that National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji was involved in his son Leslie Muturi’s abductions in Nairobi’s Kilimani area at the peak of the anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations in 2024.

In his eye-brow-raising expose, which left netizens talking, Muturi lamented that he was forced to seek President William Ruto’s intervention after efforts to secure his son’s release through the then-Interior CS Kithure Kindiki failed.

“I called Prof. Kindiki, then Cabinet Secretary for Interior. After explaining the entire situation, he expressed shock and assured me he would contact Noordin Haji. Fifteen minutes later, Kindiki called back, saying he had spoken with the DG of NIS, who denied holding Leslie. Despite my insistence that I had confirmed information from an NIS officer, Kindiki maintained that the DG could not be lying,” Muturi said.

Ruto’s call to the NIS boss confirmed that Haji had detained Muturi’s son. The president then pressured him to release him

“I heard the president ask Noordin Haji if he was holding my son, Noordin confirmed that, indeed, he was holding my son, and the president instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour…Slightly over an hour later, Leslie called me to say he had been released and was at home. I then went home to see him. This is a true and accurate recollection of what transpired,” Muturi’s document added.
