Boid Were, the son of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, has called on investigative officers to unmask those who masterminded the attack on his father.

Speaking during the requiem mass at the Consolata Shrine, Nairobi, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Boid declared that the family was more interested in knowing those who sponsored and planned the attack.

He challenged the security agencies to explore all avenues and uncover those who worked behind the scenes and called the shots leading to the death of Charles Ong’ondo Were.

Boid boldly demanded that the scope of the investigation should not end after the apprehension of the four people who are currently under probe.

“As a family, we are grateful for the kindness and support. As I conclude, as a family, all we want is justice for dad. I know there are four people who have been apprehended,, but we not only want to know the people who did it, we want to know the people who sponsored it, the people behind the scenes, the people calling the shots,” Boid stated.

His statement was echoed by South Mugirango Member of Parliament Silvanos Osoro, who asked investigative officers to track those who masterminded and sponsored the attack.

Inside Job

The statement came hours after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen indicated that the murder could have been an inside job.

“Luckily, it is within my knowledge that we have made very significant progress in arresting the perpetrators and their collaborators; and it will shock you to note that this is a very heinous crime that was done in a very cavalier manner, involving people that ordinarily should have taken good care of the interests of the MP,” Murkomen stated.

According to the postmortem report, Were was shot five times, causing severe injuries to his internal organs. Addressing the press, Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor indicated that Were could not have survived after the fatal shooting, as the bullets tracked through his heart and liver.

So far, detectives have recovered two pistols, including one believed to have been used in the murder. The murder pistol will undergo ballistic analysis to determine its ownership and usage.

The weapons were found in a house in the Chokaa area of Kayole on Tuesday night, May 6, 2025, after a daylong search, police said.

Eulogised as present father

Besides the demands, Boid eulogised the late Charles Were as a present father who took care of his family with passion. According to Boid, he played a key role in shaping the character of his children.

“Dad, you are my hero, my guy and my greatest supporter. Your strength, wisdom and unconditional love shaped the person I am today. You taught me the value of hard work, the power of kindness and the importance of staying true to myself. Your laughter filled our home with joy and your presence brought comfort even in the hardest times. You cherished our family above all. You worked hard not for recognition but to give us comfort, stability and hope. You always showed us how much we mattered,” he stated.

“You taught me strength through gentleness, courage and what it truly means to love unconditionally. Though you are no longer here in person, your spirit lives in every lesson that you taught.”
