First Daughter Charlene Ruto has urged young Kenyans to pursue lasting, objective-driven solutions rather than rely on fleeting trends or viral moments, even as protests flared across the country during Saba Saba commemorations.

Speaking on Monday, July 7, 2025, a day marked by teargas, blocked roads, and defiant demonstrators Charlene revealed through her X account that she had met youth leaders drawn from all 47 counties for a closed-door session.

The meeting, she said, was aimed at building alternative methods of engagement rooted in dialogue and structured leadership.

“These young leaders represent millions of young people across the country,” she noted, emphasizing the potential of youth to shift from reaction to reform.

As images of youth-led protests flooded social media, Charlene cautioned against relying solely on digital outrage.

“They have decided to step up and provide objective-driven representation, structured dialogues and alternative engagement methods,” she said, adding that real change demands more than “temporary hype, likes and short-lived attention.”

Her remarks came at a time when thousands of Gen Z demonstrators poured into the streets to commemorate Saba Saba, defying roadblocks, teargas and arrests.

The protests were aimed at demanding accountability, lower cost of living, and an end to police brutality.

While the government insisted Monday, July 7, 2025, was a normal working day, the heavy security deployment, empty streets, and restricted access to Nairobi’s Central Business District painted a different picture.

While critics questioned whether her message was tone-deaf given the national mood, others acknowledged the importance of long-term strategy alongside activism.

Charlene concluded her remarks by affirming her commitment to supporting youth-led innovation in governance and public service, even as the country continues to wrestle with deep-rooted grievances and calls for change: “Viva comrades! I am proud of your courage, maturity, and leadership.”
