Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has come out strongly in support of Winnie Odinga after she faced criticism from certain Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders following her remarks on the party’s political direction.

In a post on X on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Amisi accused a section of party officials of turning against Winnie, calling them “Ruto-sponsored sellouts” and opportunists who never truly believed in Raila Odinga’s ideals.

He stressed that while some leaders have shifted loyalties or aligned with rival political interests, Winnie Odinga’s dedication reflects the true values of the party’s founding vision.

Amisi highlighted Winnie Odinga’s consistent support for her late father, portraying her as someone who stood by him through political turbulence and pressure.

“Winnie Odinga has been the pillar of her father; Baba died in her hands. I have seen her endure teargas and shield the father from political mandarins,” he wrote.

He said that her actions over the years demonstrate a personal and political commitment to the ideals Raila Odinga espoused, contrasting sharply with some current leaders who, according to him, never fully embraced those principles.

Winnie’s loyalty, the MP argued, sets her apart as a stabilising figure within the party and someone who continues to command respect from long-standing party members.

Party reckoning ahead

The MP further suggested that a reckoning within ODM is inevitable, where those genuinely committed to its vision will emerge stronger while opportunists fall aside.

He said that even as certain leaders seek personal gains or align with political rivals, the core dream of a better Kenya remains alive among loyalists.

“You can kill and sell the party to Ruto, but you shall never kill the dream of Raila for a better Kenya as long as Caleb is around,” he noted.

The defence from Amisi followed hours after a post from Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who criticised Winnie Odinga, claiming she lacked the political stature to challenge senior ODM leaders.

The controversy came a day after Winnie publicly addressed the ODM@20 celebrations in Mombasa County on November 14, 2025, exactly a month after her father’s passing.

At the event marking the party’s 20th anniversary, she accused some leaders of secretly plotting to sell the party while ODM remains divided over its stance toward the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

Winnie reminded party members that ODM was built on protest and resistance, not behind closed doors or private agreements, and warned that anyone attempting to betray the party’s legacy would be exposed.
