Benji Ndolo: Level of damage Gachagua is inflicting on Ruto is unbelievable

Political commentator Benji Ndolo has raised the alarm over the impact of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent actions and statements, warning that they pose a serious threat to President William Ruto’s leadership and Kenya’s international image.

Ndolo’s remarks come in the wake of Gachagua’s controversial tour in the United States, where he openly criticised the government and met with diaspora leaders.

Lasting consequences

Taking it on X on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Ndolo expressed concern that the public and political leadership seem hesitant to confront the issue.

“I have said it before, but folks seem paralysed as to what to do. The level of damage and pain Rigathi is inflicting on the president is unbelievable,” he said. He added that in today’s digital age, the reach of Gachagua’s remarks extends far beyond Kenya’s borders and could have “very big ramifications and consequences”.

Ndolo’s comments reflect a growing concern among political observers that Gachagua’s international engagements, paired with his sharp criticism of the administration, are not just about domestic politics but are also shaping how Kenya is perceived globally — especially at a time when the country’s designation as a Major Non-NATO Ally by the U.S. is under review.

Gachagua’s US remarks

Gachagua, now aligned with opposition leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa, continues to position himself as a fierce critic of President Ruto. During his recent tour of the United States, he was hosted by Abagusii community leaders in Texas, where he once again accused the government of dictatorship, state capture, economic mismanagement, and undermining the rule of law.

“Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness to the leaders of the Abagusii community living and working in Texas,” Gachagua posted on his X account.

“We discussed the state of our nation, Kenya, and the journey to liberate our nation.”

His remarks have fuelled further political tensions back home, especially coming at a time when the U.S. Senate is reportedly reviewing Kenya’s eligibility for the strategic Major Non-NATO Ally status.

As political temperatures rise, Ndolo’s warning is that the damage being done may not just be political, and it could affect Kenya’s global relationships and internal stability.
