Embakasi East MP Babu Owino can now breathe easy over his attempted murder case after a Nairobi court issued a gag order stopping several entities from commenting on the issue.

On Wednesday, July 8, Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi gagged the media, bloggers, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of Criminal Investigations from commenting on the DJ Evolve case.

The MP went to court after NTV aired a story about DJ Evolve’s recovery following his hospitalization with a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by the Embakasi East lawmaker.

In the NTV interview, DJ Evolve said that since the shooting incident, he has lost his autonomy and struggles to talk.

Owino, whose given name is Paul Ongili, was charged with attempted murder over the shooting of the DJ in January this year at the popular B Club in Kilimani Estate, Nairobi.

The MP’s lawyers, Cliff Ombeta and Dunstan Omari, told the court that the DPP had recently incited Embakasi East constituents, urging them to recall the lawmaker.

Ombeta argued that DPP’s actions are “affecting the emotions of the accused person,” telling the state prosecutor to “stick in his lane.”
