Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests kick off in major towns
By Achieng' Mary, June 20, 2024A section of Kenyans across different parts of the country on Thursday, June 20, 2024, turned up in numbers to protest against the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
The protests which mark the second day this week, are meant to pressure Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject the bill.

Protests have gained momentum across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, and Nyeri among others, with citizens calling on the Kenya Kwanza government to drop the entire bill instead of making amendments.

In Nairobi, a section of residents carrying placards signed #RejectFinanceBill2024 staged demonstrations as early as 6 am in the CBD and around parliament.

Police are currently cordoning off parliament and government offices in plans to quell the protests and prevent protesters from accessing the house.

In Kisumu, residents staged the protests in the city’s CBD, across Kondele among other areas, as they called on leaders to throw out the bill, which they say is a burden to already struggling citizens.
