Amisi dismisses Ruto’s 43% rating as an illusion, predicts sharp drop before ballot day
By Ascah Mwango, August 6, 2025Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has dismissed claims that President William Ruto still enjoys 43 per cent support among Kenyans, calling the figure an illusion and predicting a massive drop in popularity before the 2027 elections.
In a post shared on his X account on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Saboti legislator insisted that the reality on the ground tells a much different story, one of growing disillusionment and dwindling confidence in the President’s leadership.
According to Amisi, the purported 43 per cent support does not reflect the frustrations many Kenyans are expressing amid economic hardships and controversial governance decisions. He argued that the number is inflated by political insiders and beneficiaries of the current administration, many of whom are detached from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
“It is 43% because they know who you are and who pays you. They are warm to visitors, you know,” he said.
He further claimed that support for Ruto has already plummeted significantly, estimating it at just three per cent. He projected that as discontent continues to rise, that figure will dip even lower before the 2027 general election.
He also mocked the superficial loyalty of some government insiders, predicting that their support would not last through the election season. Amisi suggested that the remaining support base would be minuscule and largely composed of protest or spoiled votes, as frustrated citizens might express their anger by invalidating their ballots rather than endorsing the regime.
“The truth is, it is now 3% and by ballot day, those eating in the government will troop back from whisky hub singing kasongo eeh eeh to 0.5%, and this 0.5% mostly is spoilt votes. Unajua kura ya hasira mtu anaweza andika kwa ballot kumbafu, ama kwenda kabisa wantam and it counts as spoilt votes,” Amisi added.

The lawmaker’s remarks came in response to a post by lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, who had just returned from a tour of Central Kenya.
“Back from my meet the people of Central Kenya tour. These are my PRELIMINARY findings: 1. President Ruto, in 2022, got 88% of the vote in Central Kenya. My tour confirms that he has lost SIGNIFICANT support. On average, his support now hovers around 43%,” Ahmednasir said.
He went on to break down the regions where, according to him, the president still had relatively stronger backing.
“2. His support is strongest in Kiambu and Laikipia. 3. He is weakest in Nyeri. 4. No consensus on what their unique grievance against President Ruto is… but economy, JurisPESA judges, and corruption are high on their list. 5. Hon Rigathi Gachagua is the kingpin, and President Uhuru is not a factor in Central Kenya,” the lawyer added.
