Saboti constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has issued a powerful call to action for young Kenyans to reject tribal politics and embrace a new era of transformative leadership.

In a strongly worded statement issued via his official X account on Monday, July 14, 2025, Amisi warned against the growing tendency to divide emerging leaders along ethnic lines, calling it a destructive trend that has held the country back since independence.

“For Kenya to change, we must never be drawn into Team Wamunyoro or Team Kasongo. We must act differently and think differently. We must preach change, change that Kenya desperately needs,” Amisi stated.

Principled leadership

Amisi emphasised the importance of principled leadership, saying he is committed to holding all leaders accountable regardless of their background.

“I correct all leaders when they are wrong, and I also accept criticism when I am wrong. That is the beauty of democracy,” he said.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker warned that the forced tribal alignment of young leaders under the guise of unity is a dangerous illusion.

“Young leaders should not be forced into tribal cocoons of us vs. them only for ‘them’ to join the ‘us.’ This has destroyed Kenya for the last 62 years of independence,” Amisi stated.

Amisi on ethnic rivalry

He decried the idea of ethnic rivalry, calling it “irrelevant and foolish,” and challenged Kenyans to acknowledge their shared struggles regardless of tribe.

“We must resist irrelevant, foolish tribal competition. All Kenyans are the same and face the same socioeconomic problems, and political division has never put us apart economically. We remain united, holloipolloi,” his statement read.

According to Amisi, the true test of leadership lies not in tribal affiliations but in an individual’s ability to unify and advocate for a progressive nation.

“The capacity of an individual to unite and champion for a progressive nation must be the yardstick of leadership,” he said.
