As families clash over where to inter the remains of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, the country’s top leadership is expected to attend the memorial service.

According to the programme, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga will address mourners and Kibra constituents at the service.

The memorial service will be held at the Moi Girls High School from where the public will also get a chance to view his body.

With the burial service set on Saturday, the family is still rocked by wrangles over whether to bury or cremate him.

On Wednesday, differences between Okoth’s paternal and maternal families played out publicly as it emerged that they were yet to agree on what to do with his body.

During a a press briefing on Wednesday, ODM leader Raila Odinga said the burial rites for the late MP will be observed on Saturday at Kabondo Kasipul Constituency where his mother, Ms Angeline Ajwang, hails from and then the body will be disposed of.

It is only after being pressed to explain what he meant by disposing of that he said the body will be cremated as it was done with Kenneth Matiba’s body.

But on the other side, it appeared that Okoth’s paternal side was fully opposed to Mr Odinga’s plan, saying that Okoth should be given his final rites according to Luo customs.

In particular, the family says they will boycott the funeral service set for Saturday, threatening unmentioned consequences if Okoth’s body is interred in Kabondo Kasipul.
