A true hero: Kalonzo dedicates Mashujaa Day to late Raila Odinga

“Happy Mashujaa Day. Today, I join many Kenyans in dedicating this day to my brother and dear friend, Rt Hon Raila Odinga. Years of detention did not stop you,” he stated
Kalonzo recalled Raila’s courage in the face of repeated electoral defeats and personal hardships, noting that his determination to fight for a fair Kenya inspired generations of leaders.

“The agony of bungled and stolen elections did not crush you. Throughout your life, you dedicated yourself mind, body and soul to the pursuit of a fair and just Kenya.”Kalonzo noted
He highlighted Raila’s unwavering commitment to ensuring dignity for all citizens, regardless of status or ethnicity, calling him a guiding figure for the nation.

He concluded by wishing Kenyans a meaningful Mashujaa Day, framing the occasion as both a celebration of heroes and a tribute to Raila’s enduring legacy.
“In Gwambo, you exhibited true heroism not only in words but also in your remarkable resolve to persevere, hope, and believe. Your sacrifices, Baba, will not be forgotten. You are and will always remain my hero, Kenya’s Shujaa. From your perch at the mountaintop, I wish you and all Kenyans of goodwill a Happy Mashujaa Day,” he said
Mashujaa Day in Kitui
This year, the national celebration is taking place at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County. Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo confirmed that the stadium is fully complete and ready to host the festivities.
Dignitaries and heads of state have started arriving, including Senegalese President Bassirou Diakhar Faye, who will participate as a guest of honour and undertake a state visit alongside the celebrations.

Mashujaa Day traditionally celebrates Kenya’s heroes, and this year the observance carries special significance as the country continues to mourn Raila Odinga, who was laid to rest on October 19, 2025.
Omollo has urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to celebrate the nation’s heroes while also honouring the late former Prime Minister.
