Two Kenya Defence Forces soldiers, both of the rank of warrant officer, a Directorate of Criminal Investigations detective and a police corporal attached to a Cabinet Secretary are among 12 people arrested in a bar for defying Govt-imposed curfew.

The eleven were arrested on Sunday, April 5, at a bar on Kangundo Road for failing to obey the 7pm- 5am curfew imposed by the national government as a measure to minimise social interactions in wake of coronavirus outbreak.

The suspects were found drunk and disorderly and were taken to the Buruburu Police Station.

So far, Kenya has had a total of 142 confirmed coronavirus cases, with four recoveries and four deaths.

The national government has been relying on Kenyans to obey directives issued to protect them from contracting the deadly Covid-19.

Part of the country’s success in fighting coronavirus hinges on Kenyans’ adherence to social distancing rules and maintaining high hygiene standards.

As the number of coronavirus cases increases and with the cases projected to hit 10,000 by end of April, many leaders have intensified calls for a lockdown.

However, speaking on Punchline on Sunday, Government Spokesperson (Rtd) Col. Cyrus Oguna said the coronavirus situation is not dire enough to be categorised as a national disaster.

Oguna said that the country is not yet ready to declare a lockdown since the cases have only been reported in seven counties, with most of them concentrated in one county.

Further, Oguna said that even if a lockdown is ordered, it may not be a total lockdown of all the 47 counties.
