10 dead after boat capsizes in Lake Victoria

Ten people have drowned in Lake Victoria after the boat they were travelling in capsized at Usenge, Siaya County on Wednesday morning.

Nyanza Region Police Commander Karanja Muiruri confirmed the fatalities, saying that they had rescued 10 others following the accident.

The police boss said that the boat, which was heading to Usenge’s Nairobi Beach from Uganda, capsized at about 5.45 am.

Muiruri said that Coast Guard officers are leading operations to retrieve the 10 bodies.
