Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale has told off Kenyans calling for the resignation of President William Ruto.

Speaking during a live interview on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Duale commended the Head of State over his leadership stating that he has delivered to the people and stabilised the country’s economy.

According to the outspoken CS, Ruto has reduced food and fuel prices making life bearable for the common mwananchi.

He added that under Ruto’s governance, the country’s inflation is at 1 per cent and farmers are contented.

“The people who are saying Zakayo ashuke, ashuke kutoka wapi? Amepanda wapi? Zakayo has delivered, he has brought down food and fuel prices, inflation is at 1 per cent, farmers are happy,” Duale said.

Asked whether the Head of State takes advice from him and other CSs, Duale stated that Ruto extensively consults before making decisions that would affect the country.

He particularly pointed out that the first in command widely consulted about the contentious Finance Bill which was withdrawn last week after widespread outrage from citizens.

“You think he wakes up in the morning and declined to sign the Finance Bill? Do you think he woke up one morning and decided Gachagua will be his running mate? On the Finance Bill the president consulted far wide,” he said.

Duale’s remarks come amid tension over ongoing anti-government protests led by the youths of the country.

This week marks the third week since the protests which began as anti-Finance Bill 2024 demos morphed into anti-government protests.

Several people have lost their lives from the demonstrations after police fired at peaceful protestors marching against the tax proposals last week.

The ongoing protests seeking President Ruto’s resignation among other demands are expected today in different parts of the country.
