The wife of the missing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer (RO) for Embakasi East, Daniel Musyoka Mbolu, has broken her silence.
Speaking to the press, Tabitha Mbolu recounted that she last heard from her husband on Wednesday when he made an unusual call while at work.
At the time, her husband informed her that all was going on well at work.
“He admitted that the work was a lot, but assured me that he would come home as soon as he was done. He did not tell me that he had any issues at work,” she recounted.
She also noted that they launched search parties moments after she realised that her husband was unreachable on the phone.
“We have looked for him in all the places he could be – from hospitals, pharmacies and even the mortuary- but to no avail. We ask anyone privy to his whereabouts to come forth with the information,” she stated.
Chebukati expresses concern as Embakasi East Returning Officer goes missing
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Friday, August 12, 2022, announced that Musyoka had dissapeared without a trace.
Chebukati said that Musyoka had disappeared while on duty at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre.
“We wish to inform the country that our returning officer for Embakasi East Mr Daniel Musyoka has been reported missing while on duty at the East African School of aviation tallying centre,” Chebukati said.
The IEBC chairman revealed that the Returning Officer was escorted from his house to the office by his bodyguard before he excused himself only to disappear without a trace.
“Reports received by the commission indicate that at around 9 am on 11th of August yesterday he was escorted from his house to the office – that’s the tallying centre by his bodyguard at around 9:45 am he excused himself to make a telephone call but did not return to the office,” Chebukati said.
The IEBC chairman called on relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the disappearance of the Returning Officer, revealing that the commission had filed a missing person report with the police.
“A report of a missing person has been made at the Embakasi police station under occurrence book no: 24/11/8/2022. The commission is deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and calls upon the relevant security agencies to speedily investigate this matter,” the IEBC chair said.
