Siaya Governor James Orengo is challenging President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza team to stop giving excuses and implement what they promised Kenyans during the campaign period.

Orengo noted the few weeks that Kenya Kwanza has been in power has seen its leaders thrown into the window the promises, after tasting power.

The governor reminded President Ruto and his team that they will be judged according to the promises they made, whether they will implement them or not.

He was speaking at the Siaya water treatment plant after launching the rehabilitation of Abura Dam and the old Siaya water supply plant.

The project which will cost Ksh44 million has been funded by the World Bank through the Kenya Devolution Support Programme.

“Power for power’s sake is not a solution for the lives of patriots who have struggled to bring change to this country,” observed the former senate minority leader adding: “I know there was a lot of excitement when you were talking about your blueprint and vision which I am seeing less and less being talked about now.”

Orengo claimed that Kenya Kwanza was now focused on how to wield and survive in the reins of power by whatever means, adding, Kenya and the world was keenly watching and listening to the Kenya Kwanza leadership.

“We are not going to give up. Our duty is not to attain power but to make Kenya fairer and a just society for the prosperity of all in accordance with the vision of our forefathers and those who shed blood for this country called Kenya,” he said.

On Siaya leadership, Orengo who was accompanied by his deputy, William Oduol and county secretary Joseph Ogutu urged local members of the county assembly to speak with one voice and support his government in service delivery.

“We will bring to you bills and policies that are for the good of the people of this county and Kenyans at large. Let us work together without bringing side shows that may make Siaya lag behind other counties,” he stated.

He said that his government targets to increase water coverage to 65 percent from the current 58 percent in the next five years.

Orengo hailed the World Bank and the Kenya Devolution Support Programme for the support and assured that the funds will be put to good use.
