Kibaki farewell: List of roads to be closed on Friday

The government has announced a disruption of traffic flow in a section of Nairobi routes on Friday, April 29 during the funeral service of the late retired President Mwai Kibaki that will be held at Nyayo Stadium.

In a notice, Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said traffic flow will be disrupted on Procession Way, Kenyatta Avenue, Uhuru Highway, and Aerodome Road.

“In this regard, motorists are advised to avoid Aeorodome Road and a section of Uhuru Highway between Nyayo House and Lusaka roundabout from 7:00 am,” Shioso said.

Routes affected

Motorists driving to the city centre from Waiyaki Way or intending to cross over to Mombasa Road are advised to avoid Uhuru Highway.

The drivers are advised to divert to Kenyatta Avenue at Nyayo House and head to Moi Avenue, Heila Salassie, City Stadium, and proceed to Mombasa Road through Lusaka Road.

Those from Mombasa Road and intending to access the CBD or Westlands, are advised to use Southern Bypass, Likoni-Enterprise or Lusaka Road.

Kibaki funeral

Kibaki, who passed on Friday, April 22, is set to be buried at his Othaya home on Saturday, April 30.

“We have finalised preliminary plans for the state funeral of His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki and I would like the public to know that this will take place on Friday the 29th of April 2022 at Nyayo National Stadium,” Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said.
