Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, failed to attend court for the trial of a case in which he is accused of forging his academic certificates.

Sudi’s lawyers Thomas Ruto, Collins Kiprono, and George Wajakoyah told trial magistrate Felix Kombo that the MP was unable to attend court as he is currently involved in the Assumption of Office Committee that is organising the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect William Ruto set for Tuesday, September 13.

The lawyers, however, urged the court to have the case proceed in his absence.

The magistrate allowed the request by Sudi’s legal team to have the case proceed to further hearing without the accused being present in court.

Oscar Sudi skips court

This is the third time the MP who is charged with forging education certificates is skipping court sessions.

On May 18, the legislator failed to attend court on a count that he was out of the country in Turkey for treatment.

On March 1, the MP also failed to appear in court claiming he had tested positive for Covid-19.

In the case, the MP is facing three counts of forging his academic certificates.

Sudi is charged with presenting forged education certificates at the electoral commission offices when he sought nomination for the 2013 general election.

The prosecution said his Diploma Certificate in Business Management, allegedly issued by the Kenya Institute of Management, was forged.

He is also accused of forging his KCSE certificate purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examination council.

The court heard that he committed the offence on January 31, 2013, at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices in Eldoret.

The MP has denied the charges and is out on bond pending the hearing and determination of the case.
