CDF General Francis Ogolla to be laid to rest on Sunday

Departed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla will be laid to rest at his home in Mor, Alego Usonga, Siaya County on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

His family confirmed the latest saying that Ogolla had indicated in his will that he should be buried within 72 hours when he died. The burial ceremony will be preceded by a heartfelt service at his local church in Nduru.

A memorial service will be held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata on Friday, April 26, 2024.

“Let us gather, to celebrate the life of a General who declared his life to service, love, generosity and devotion that touched us deeply,” a statement shared by the family reads in parts.

So far, the family says a committee has been established to collaborate with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) committee to accord the general a decent send-off.

CDF Ogolla’s death

Ogolla tragically lost his life in a chopper crash on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

The general was accompanied by 11 other gallant military personnel; nine who also passed on with him and two survivors when the helicopter crashed in Chesegon, an area between West Pokot and Elgeiyo Marakwet Counties. 

The departed military official died while on duty as he was visiting bandit-stricken areas in the North Rift region.

Before the unfortunate incident, Ogolla and his team had stopped by Chesiret in Baringo county where a multi-agency team briefed him on the security situation.

He then headed to Kainuk Forward Operating Base in Turkana County before proceeding to Chesegun where he launched the rehabilitation of Cheptulel Boys’ High School.

The general was destined for the Recruits Training School in Uasin Gishu, however, he did not make it to the destination as his trip was cut short when the chopper crashed shortly after take off.
