The government has increased the charges for using the Nairobi Expressway across all the stations along the 27.1 km Mlolongo-Westlands route.

Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the new charges in a gazette notice dated December 19, 2023, saying the new rates take effect from December 31, 2023.

CS Murkomen attributed the increase to the global dollar variation rates.

In the new changes, light vehicles with two axles and a high bonnet will pay 1.5 times more than the standard saloon cars.

Heavy vehicles with fewer than four axles will pay 4 times more than the standard saloon cars while heavy vehicles with four or more axles will pay 5 times more than the standard saloon cars.

Below is the breakdown of the new charges for standard saloon cars using the Nairobi Expressway.

Multiply the figures by 1.5, 4 and 5 for the charges for light vehicles with two axles, heavy vehicles with fewer than four axles and heavy vehicles with four or more axles respectively.
