Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has reacted to a viral video that captured two people performing dangerous stunts while hanging out of a Mercedes Benz that was being driven on the busy Mombasa Road.

Murkomen re-posted the video on his official account on X and called out the car’s owner over the blatant reckless driving.

The Roads CS lamented that the brazen violation of traffic rules on Mombasa Road was meant to mock him in a bid to see how he would react being the Minister of Roads.

“Mr. James Gathogo Njeri this is how your car white Mercedes Benz KCX 959B class E-250 was being driven on Mombasa road in one of those “where is the Minister” moments. We are concerned and a responsible citizen has alerted us. We shall do what we must,” Murkomen wrote on X.

Flooding

Separately, the Roads CS explained why the James Gichuru to Rironi area underpasses floods often whenever it rains.

In a statement responding to a question raised by lawyer Paul Muite on X, Murkomen said the roads flood because their outfall drains have not been completed.

Murkomen went on to say that several other roads around the same area are not completed due to various reasons.

“CS K Murkomen;all the under-passes on NRB/NKU rd from Uthiru to Rironi are a NIGHTMARE not just for small cars but trailers & tankers too;waterlogged;deep craters & rocks sticking out.Please use the rd maintenance levy we pay for every litre of fuel to fix these,” X user Paul Muite asked Murkomen.

To which the Roads CS replied;

“You are right SC. James Gichuru to Rironi underpasses do flood because their respective outfall drains have not been completed. This includes Zambezi, Chunga Mali/ Tilisi, Gichini. For Zambezi &Chunga Mali the acquisition of land to construct a pond is not done.”

Heavy rains continue to pound the capital Nairobi and several parts of the country, causing flooding galore.

On Sunday April 21, 2023, Athi River burst its banks following heavy rains leaving households in Kinanie, Machakos County in dire straits.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society on Sunday, 14 individuals, including 10 adults and 4 children were rescued following the flooding.
