Nakuru Town West Member of Parliament, Samuel Arama, caused a stir and sparked outrage as he brandished a pistol and issued threats towards residents gathered for a protest in the Shabab area of Nakuru on Wednesday, July 19.

In a video circulating online, the lawmaker is heard issuing threats to protesters, saying that they should be shot.

“Kwani sisi sio wakenya? Kwani hatukupiagia Raila kura? Si ata mimi nilimpigia Raila kura na akashindwa na William Ruto. Hate nikisema hawa watu wapigwe kwani nini hawawezi kupigwa?Nitapiga mtu risasi,” he was heard threatening.

Loosely translated, “Are we not Kenyans? Didn’t we vote for Raila? I also voted for Raila and he lost to William Ruto. If I say these people should be shot, why can’t they be shot? I will shoot someone. Leave this place and go do your job, you will be arrested if you stay here.”

The protest was organized to express grievances over the high cost of living in the ongoing demonstration called by the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition.

The industrial area of Shabab witnessed protests, with residents lighting bonfires on the roads. Despite police intervention to disperse the crowd, the residents continued to reignite the bonfires once law enforcement personnel left the scene.

In a shocking turn of events, Arama brandished a pistol and made alarming threats towards the residents claiming he also voted for Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

The MP was elected on a Jubilee party ticket.

Arama has served as a member of parliament for the Nakuru Town West constituency since 2013.
