A man who was arrested for stealing Ksh239,4000 from his boss has told a Mombasa court that he spent the money to build his ailing parents a house.

Kimanzi Mbuvi who appeared before Mombasa resident magistrate Rita Orora pleaded guilty to charges of stealing.

The court heard that Mbuvi was arrested in Kitui by detectives while constructing the said house.

Mbuvi in his mitigation told the court that he stole the money which he had been requested to deposit in the bank by his boss.

The defendant, however, fled from Mombasa to his Kitui home to build his parents a two-bedroom permanent house.

In his defence, Mbuvi pleaded with his boss to allow him to work for him, and repay back the stolen money in instalments.

“I don’t know what misled me, I have always banked my boss’ money, however on the said day I ran away with the money just to make my dreams of building my parents a decent house come true. We have lived in poverty all through our lives, I only meant to make them happy during their last days on earth happier,” he informed the court.

The charges read that on May 16, 2022, at around 1100 hours, within the Memon Tononoka area in Mombasa county Mbuvi stole Ksh239,400 the property of Alwaely agencies.

Mombasa court ruled against defendant

Mombasa resident magistrate Rita Orora ordered Mbuvi to pay a fine of Ksh100,000 failure to which he will serve a one-year sentence.

“I have considered your mitigation; however I order you to pay a fine of, the stated amount or serve one year in prison. You have 14 days to appeal,” she said.
