Exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna now says he looks forward to returning home after the election of Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader William Ruto as president.

The Canada-based barrister said on Monday, August 15, that he has packed his bags and is ready to take the next flight to Nairobi.

Miguna, however, noted that Ruto has to be sworn in as president first and ‘red alerts’ against him lifted before he travels home.

The firebrand lawyer-cum politician made the remarks after a section of Kenyans on social media asked him to return home after his preferred presidential candidate was declared the winner of the August 9 polls.

“To all patriots: Relax. Thanks for the solidarity. Yes, I’ve packed my bags and I’m ready. But before I can take my flight back home, William Samoei Ruto must first be sworn in as President, the red alerts lifted and my Kenyan passport renewed. See you soon. Cheers!” Miguna said in a tweet.

Miguna was deported to Canada in February 2018.

He has been unable to return home severally due to “red alerts” allegedly issued by Kenyan authorities.

The self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general was forced out of the country after taking part in the controversial swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the ‘people’s president’ following the disputed 2017 election results.

Ruto promises to allow Miguna to return home

Ruto in March promised to allow Miguna to return home.

Speaking to an international media house, DP Ruto said he will ensure that Miguna jets back to the country once he clinches power.

While criticizing Miguna’s deportation, Ruto said the lawyer is a Kenyan citizen and has every right to return to his motherland.

“I will bring him home at once. He is a Kenyan. He has not done anything wrong. If he has done anything, he should be brought home and face the law at home,” Ruto said.
