A pastor and his wife have been arrested after a woman’s decomposing body was found in their house in Kirinyaga.

James Muchira, 45, his wife, and another woman were arrested on Monday, July 4, 2022, and are being held at Kiamachiri Police station.

It is alleged that the man of the cloth, who ministers at God’s Mountain of Believers church, lived with his mother’s lifeless body, praying that she would come back to life.

According to Muchira’s brother, Evans Mwaniki, the pastor picked up their sick mother from the hospital a month ago, to pray for her in his house which also doubles up as a church.

But when he came to check on her progress yesterday, Muchira refused to allow him to see her prompting him to seek help from the area sub-chief.

“He prays for people. He picked our mother to come and pray for her. He has a church in his home and he has been living with her for the last month. When I came to visit her yesterday, he refused to let me in,” Mwaniki said.

The cleric is also said to have denied the chief entry into his house, forcing him to call the police.

Upon arrival, the police found the decomposing body in the house.

“I had come to see how she is fairing on and possibly take her to hospital. He refused to open for us and when the government intervened they found her dead,” Mwaniki added.

Kirinyaga police confirm arrest

Mwea West Sub-County Commander Wilson Koskey confirmed the incident saying investigations are ongoing.

The police boss said the three suspects will be charged in court after investigations are complete.

Stunned villagers said no one attends Muchira’s church from the area.

“We hear there is a church here, but no one from this area goes there. He claims he can heal someone by drinking his ‘holy’ water.”
