Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has heaped praises on the Kenya Kwanza regime led by President William Ruto.
Speaking to K24 TV on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, Kidero blamed politicians for preaching doom to paint the current administration in a bad light.
“I think there is vibrancy in the air, happiness, and hope in the air despite some politicians and people who are in leadership preaching doom and gloom. The celebrations yesterday show there is a new dawn for Kenya as a republic,” Kidero said.
This comes despite the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) indicating that the risks for inflation remain high for the future, even as the inflation rate for November 2023 remained at 6.8 per cent as compared to 6.9 per cent in October.
Food inflation in November remained high at 7.6 per cent as compared to 7.8 per cent in October 2023.
Prices of several vegetable items including onions, tomatoes, and carrots, remained elevated in November due to reduced supply.
Fuel inflation increased to 15.5 per cent in November from 14.8 per cent in October.
Non-food non-fuel (NFNF) inflation declined modestly to 3.3 per cent in November from 3.6 per cent in October.
Painful taxes
In his speech during Kenya’s 60th Madaraka Day celebrations, President William Ruto defended the government’s painful tax measures against Kenyans, saying the moves had helped Kenya pull out of distressful debt situation.
“The greatness and patriotic devotion of the people of Kenya have been on display during the past year. Together, we have made the right choices, sometimes taking very difficult and painful decisions, to steer Kenya back from the edge of the catastrophic cliff of debt distress, and move our nation in a new direction,” Ruto said.
“There is every reason to believe that without serious sacrifices and hard work over the past year, the crises, threats, and challenges in the global economic and geopolitical environment confronting us would have overwhelmed us, as indeed, it has many countries.”
