Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu has called on investigating agencies to probe numerous cases of suspicious suppliers and accounts at City Hall.

Kananu, who reshuffled Chief Officers in the county on Wednesday, July 5, said her fears relating to suspicious dealings involving some officers had been confirmed.

“Since the reshuffle was implemented, numerous cases of suspicious suppliers and accounts have been exposed confirming my worst fears of systemic malpractices within sections of the county administration,” the Governor said in a statement on Friday, July 7.

She added: “I have directed the commencement of investigations into the persons involved and we are currently cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure all those involved are brought to book and punished accordingly.”

Kananu, who was sworn in on November 16, 2021, as substantive governor of Nairobi City County, named Joseph Gathiaka as the new Nairobi county acting Chief Finance Officer.

The position was initially held by Mohamed Sahal who is the Chief Officer for health.

In the new changes, Gathiaka will also act as the County Head of Treasury.

The current Deputy Director for Disaster Management Brian Kisali was appointed as the Chief Officer for Disaster Management.

Elizabeth Njau, who has been serving as Deputy Director for Trade, will be acting Chief Officer for Trade Department.

“The fight against corruption is one that requires selfless commitment and I cannot allow the haze of the upcoming elections to be a cover for those who wish to reap where they have not sowed.

“I remain steadfast in the fight against corruption in NCCG. I want to urge all county staff and Nairobians to report any instance of corruption or malpractice to the relevant authorities,” Kananu stated.
