Boda boda operators and residents of Kimbo area in Juja, Kiambu County, are up in arms over the deplorable state of a six-kilometer road, claiming that it has affected their sexual life due to bumpy rides.

The protestors who included Tuk Tuk operators blocked the Kimbo-Matangini road with burning tyres and stones for more than two hours to express their anger at the local leadership whom they accused of ignoring their plight.

The motorcycle riders claimed that spending long hours on the rough road has caused strains in their sexual relationships as they usually arrive home extremely exhausted to perform conjugal duties.

They accused area MP George Koimburi and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi of giving lip service to the state of the road with empty promises that it will be acted upon.

“This road has been in that poor state for more than four years now. For us boda boda operators it is affecting our marital lives as our women suspect we have other affairs since most of us get home very tired and go straight to sleep,” Paul Ndung’u, one of the riders, said.

He lamented that the only time there are efforts to repair the road is when a relative of a politician or well-connected individual dies or during the campaign period when it is filled up with patches of soil.

Boda boda and Tuk Tuk operators said they incurred huge losses in purchase of spare parts owing to the bad road, adding that numerous accidents occur when motorists try to avoid hitting the potholes.

“We have had enough of empty promises from our leaders, including the MP and the Governor. They have been telling us that the road has been budgeted for and is about to be repaired with no progress,” said another resident, Simon Kariuki.

Police had a hard time clearing the blockaded road and had at one time to lob teargas to disperse the rowdy youths.
