The man who hanged on Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya’s chopper told Meru Police Commandant Hussein Ali that he wanted a lift to Nairobi.
Joakim Mutwiri hanged on the CS’s chopper when it was taking off from Kiegoi market in Meru County on Thursday, June 22.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) announced that Mutwiri was arrested the same day and taken to court for trying to commit suicide and endangering the lives of those on board the chopper.
“The culprit in this incident is in police custody and the Authority is coordinating with law enforcement agencies to ensure due course of the law as espoused in the Civil Aviation Act and Regulations,” a statement by KCAA read in part.
Cases of people hanging on choppers
KCAA further discouraged the act that is seemingly gaining popularity at rallies.
“The Authority categorically emphasizes that hanging on to choppers poses an unnecessary danger to persons and property. Members of the public seen to approach the aircraft landing and take-off sites will be held culpable,” KCAA said.
The man was, however, not charged immediately after his mother said he is battling a mental problem.
His mother said it was not the first time Mutwiri was being involved in dangerous actions after jumping from the first floor in a house he lived in a while back.
He, however, survived the jump with minor injuries.
He will be charged in a Meru court on Monday, June 27.
