Eldoret-Webuye highway accident: Death toll rises to six

The death toll has risen to six after bizarre accidents that occurred in Miti Mbili, Kosachei area along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.

According to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) chief Executive officer Dr Wilson Aruasa, the number rose to six after three more people succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.

“The death toll has risen to six after three more people who sustained injuries succumbed at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Eldoret,” Aruasa stated.

He added that four people are currently admitted at the facility.

The Sunday morning incident occurred after a 14-seater matatu from Trippin Sacco rammed into a trailer that had suddenly stopped on the road.

As a result of the first accident, a NNUS sacco matatu heading to Eldoret stopped on the side of the road to rescue the victims of the first accident.

At the time, another trailer heading to Webuye rammed into the second matatu before overturning. As confirmed by Uasin Gishu police commander Ayub Gitonga, three people died on the spot as others were rushed to hospital for emergency medical attention.

Officers were deployed at the scene to control traffic and remove the vehicles.
