Kitale-based comedian Isaac Sichei, alias Mkenya Isaak 7Million, on Friday, October 14, led a group of youths in a 47-kilometre walk in marking this year’s Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) day in Nakuru.
Speaking in Kitale town, where he was joined by more than 15 youths, the self-proclaimed clean content ambassador said the walk is meant to appreciate Kenyans serving in the military.
The group said the walk is also dedicated to those who served in KDF but lost their lives while in the line of duty.
The walk started at Njoro Posta at 9:00 am through Elburgon, Turi, Molo and ended in Sirikwa Ward.
Sichei said the military officers make a lot of sacrifices, including leaving their families behind, to serve the nation.
“As civilians, we saw it fit to start an initiative to show our love and appreciation to the men and women in uniform for the good work they are doing,” he said.
This is the second walk the group is making after a similar initiative last year.
In 2021, Sichei led a group of four youths on a similar walk from Kitale flyover to 9 Kenya Rifles (9KR) Moi Barracks in Soy, Uasin Gishu County.
Interestingly, Sichei, who is passionate about military activities, has unsuccessfully tried to join KDF several times.
In a past interview, he said instead of being bitter about missing out on opportunities to join the military he had resolved to use his skills to advocate for good working relationships between security forces and civilians.
“Serving your country is one of the best things you can do in your life,” he said.
KDF Day is an annual event celebrated on 14 October in honour of fallen heroes and heroines.
President William Ruto is on Friday expected to preside over the 11th KDF Day at the Laikipia Air Base, his first such event with the military since assuming office mid-last month.
