A 30-year-old man has been detained at Sotik police station in Bomet for allegedly killing his father, 55, after being denied money to buy a bodaboda.

Victor Langat is said to have demanded a share of the money which was acquired from the sale of a piece of land but when the parents denied him, he picked up a piece of wood and hit his mother on the head injuring her.

Balek Sub-location assistant chief Wesley Langat said the suspect became violent but his father managed to tie him up.

The administrator said the suspect managed to untie himself and picked up a piece of wood and hit his father on the head killing him on the spot.

“His parents had agreed to sell a piece of land to relocate one of their sons to Mauche. The suspect demanded a share of the money to buy a motorcycle but the parents turned down his demand,” Wesly said.

Members of the public thronged to the scene and apprehended the suspect before handing him over to the police.

The assistant chief said the suspect is known for criminal activities and is a drug addict.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the Kapkatet Hospital mortuary.
