The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has cleared the Bomas Auditorium ahead of subsequent ceremonies relating to the announcement and declaration of the winner of the presidential elections.

The electoral body is expected to announce the winner of the presidential contest as the 7-day window provided by the constitution comes to a close.

The Bomas of Kenya, which serves as the national tallying centre, has been a bee-hive of activity as commission officials and party agents strived to verify results in time.

The process was dogged with drama as party agents traded accusations and counter-accusations of alleged manipulation of electoral forms.

The situation forced IEBC to issue an order sending out politicians with no defined jobs at the tallying centre.

IEBC commissioner Abdi Hassan Guliye said the body would allow a limited number of people in the auditorium to give an easy time to verify results in Bomas.

“We wish to announce further changes to access to Bomas. This tallying centre will only allow the presence of agents of presidential candidates and their aides, chief agents, deputy chief agents and clerks helping with verification. Observers, diplomats and the media are also permitted to observe and cover,” Guliye said.
