Adams had recently achieved a lifelong dream by representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He started the opening game against Mexico and latter against Czech Republic before coming off the bench during the victory over South Korea that secured Bafana Bafana’s place in the knockout stage.

World Cup stint

SAFPU reflected with pride on the player’s involvement with the national team at the ongoing World Cup in North America

“Jayden had only recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, carrying the hopes of the nation with pride, courage and distinction. His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, the football fraternity, and the country at large.

Moments after the confirmation, netizens unearthed old clips of the star showing him in a jovial mood and other while giving post-match interviews after their game in the USA.

Grandmum passes on

The midfielder had just come from a mourning period after his grandmother, Marianna Adams, died shortly before the Czechia match. Despite the loss, Adams took the field and represented his country during an incredibly painful period for his family.

Adams has been a rising star for African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, whom he joined in January 2025 from Stellenbosch FC.

He had recently helped the Sundowns secure the CAF Champions League title for the 2025/26 season. Following the World Cup, he had been granted extended leave and was expected to rejoin his team for their pre-season training camp in Austria before his sudden death.
