Harry Kane makes his choice between World Cup glory and Golden Boot

England captain Harry Kane has opened up about his tournament ambitions, stating he would rather be crowned a world champion than win another Golden Boot.
Kane has been among the elite, big-name strikers firing on all cylinders in the tournament, having found the net six times for England so far.
He currently ranks just behind Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland on the top-scorer charts.
“It has been an amazing World Cup in terms of top strikers scoring goals, and it has been a great competition,” Kane said in an interview with Sky Sports on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
“My main goal is to win the World Cup with England, not the Golden Boot. I know I am a goalscorer, and as a number nine, I must score to help my team.

“I have enjoyed being on the pitch since the start of the tournament. I always want to be out there affecting the game, helping my teammates, and cherishing the opportunity to be successful again,” he added.
Kane already owns a Golden Boot from his debut tournament at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where his goals helped England secure a fourth-place finish. He will be keen to better that collective record now, as Thomas Tuchel’s side remains determined to add a historic second star to their badge.
England earned their first and only World Cup title back in 1966.
Kane’s World Cup milestones
With his clinical penalty against Mexico in the 3-2 Round of 16 victory, the England skipper took his overall tally to 14 career World Cup goals.
This feat cements his status as England’s outright top scorer in World Cup history, well clear of Gary Lineker’s previous record of 10, and places him joint fifth on the tournament’s all-time global scoring chart alongside West Germany legend Gerd Müller.
Furthermore, Kane now holds the definitive all-time tournament record for the most penalties scored in World Cup history with six successful spot-kicks.
