2030 World Cup: 6 countries that have already booked their places

The road to the 2030 FIFA World Cup has barely begun, but six countries have already secured their places at football’s biggest tournament.

While national teams around the world battle through qualifying campaigns, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay have already booked their tickets to the global showpiece.

According to FIFA regulations, countries hosting the FIFA World Cup qualify automatically for the tournament. For the 2030 edition, Spain, Portugal and Morocco are the main hosts and will stage 101 of the tournament’s 104 matches.

Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay will each host one centenary celebration match to mark 100 years since the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. As official host nations, all six countries have secured automatic qualification.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be the first in history to be played across three continents: Europe, Africa and South America. The tournament will feature 48 teams and is expected to be one of the biggest and most unique editions of the competition.

Spain

Spain is one of the three main hosts and will stage the majority of the tournament’s matches. The European giants will also enter the competition as the reigning FIFA World Cup champions after winning the 2026 title.

Automatic qualification gives La Roja the opportunity to prepare for a home World Cup as they aim to defend their crown in front of their supporters.

Portugal

Portugal will co-host the tournament alongside Spain and Morocco. The country has developed into one of Europe’s strongest football nations, consistently challenging for major international honours.

With qualification already guaranteed, Portugal can focus entirely on preparing for another World Cup campaign.

Morocco

Morocco will make history as one of the main hosts of the 2030 World Cup, becoming only the second African nation to host the tournament after South Africa in 2010.

The Atlas Lions captured global attention by becoming the first African team to reach the FIFA World Cup semi-finals in 2022. Hosting the tournament marks another milestone for football on the continent.

Argentina

Argentina is among the six nations that have already qualified for the 2030 World Cup. The reigning South American giants will host one of the tournament’s opening centenary matches as part of FIFA’s celebrations marking 100 years since the first World Cup.

Although Argentina will stage only one match, its status as an official host nation guarantees automatic qualification.

Uruguay

Uruguay holds a unique place in football history as both the host and winner of the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930.

Montevideo will host one of the opening centenary matches to commemorate the tournament’s centenary. As an official host nation, Uruguay automatically qualifies for the 2030 finals.

Paraguay

Paraguay completes the list of the first six qualified teams. The South American nation will host one of the opening centenary matches during the tournament’s celebrations.

Despite staging only one game, Paraguay receives automatic qualification under FIFA’s hosting regulations.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to feature 48 teams, with the remaining 42 places to be decided through continental qualifying competitions over the coming years..
