Shabana FC has dealt Tusker FC’s new coach, Julien Mette, a losing debut following a battling 1-0 win over the Brewers in the FKF Premier League contest staged at the Gusii Stadium this Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Tom Teka’s fortuitous own goal in the first half was all the in-form Tore Bobe team needed to down the determined opponents and continue their fine league of six unbeaten games.

With 37 points, Peter Okidi’s team also closed in on third-placed AFC Leopards, who now only better their run by goal difference.

Michira leads Shabana’s onslaughts

The clash saw Okidi retain the squad that did duty against Posta Rangers, with Keith Imbali, Byron Otieno, and Kevin Omuri pulling the strings in the midfield.

Danger man Brian Michira was pivotal to Shabana’s forays at goal and came close to putting the hosts to a 20th-minute lead.

The host lead came in the 38th minute, though, as Teka deflected a lofted effort past an out-of-position Brandon Obiero for the opener.

The goal came barely moments after Dennis Oalo and Fabian Adikiny had come close to the visitors with a brilliant give-and-go move.

Tusker’s foray to get back to the clash saw Chrispine Erambo’s long-range effort whistle off Stephen Ochieng’s goal at the hour mark.

Meanwhile, Okidi introduced more offensive arsenals, bringing on Austine Odongo and Derrick Otieno as they sought to close out the encounter.

The host ultimately prevailed in keeping intact their advantage and claiming the maximum points on home turf.

Despite the defeat, the Brewers’ new coaches, Mette and his assistant, Anthony Kimani, will look back with pride over the performance.

The new French tactician, who was formally unveiled at the club on Friday, February 20, had earlier shared his plan to turn the club’s fortunes around with a rider that the process will take time. Mette also hailed the mentality in the team and the determination, adding that the major miss was a lack of experience.

It remains to be seen how his tenure to summon a fresh beginning at the Ruaraka-based club pans out.
