Shumah lights up Zambia’s Super League derby with maiden hat trick

Kenyan striker Moses Shumah was in scintillating form, lighting up the Zambian ‘electricity derby‘ pitting Zesco United against his Power Dynamos side on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with a spectacular hat-trick in the Super League showdown.

The clash at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium had everything: goals, drama, twists, and fine finishing thanks to a delightful performance from the Harambee Stars attacker.

Shumah struck first in the 18th minute to give the visitors a crucial lead.

The advantage was almost instantly neutralised as Amine Hiver scored twice in quick succession (33rd and 39th minutes) to give the Ndola side a 2–1 lead at half-time.

The Kenyan was, however, not to be denied. He first equalised in the 65th minute before completing his stunning hat trick in the 80th minute for a dramatic 3–2 victory for Power Dynamos.

12 and counting

The goal extended the striker’s fine form in front of goal with his 12th strike of the season, moving him to the top of the scorers’ chart.

The Kenyan has been in fine form after joining Power Dynamos for a record transfer from Kakamega Homeboyz, where he also topped the local league scoring chart with 17 goals last season.

K24 Sports Digital recently ranked the Power Dynamos poacher as the most prolific Kenyan striker beyond the country’s frontiers after he scored a brace in a league clash against Green Buffaloes on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The feat, which earned him his ninth goal of the league, saw him trailing only the current FKF PL leading scorer Joe Waithira of Murang’a Seal among Kenyan leading netbusters.

Ulinzi Stars’ striker Paul Okoth, who took an early lead in the league standings scoring charts in the first half of the season before falling off the pace, is ranked third with nine goals.

The derby defeat, however, marked a new low for ZESCO United, which has Kenyan custodian Levis Opiyo in its ranks. The defeat now means five straight losses for the stuttering former league champions.
