Shabana throw away 2-goal lead to draw with APS Bomet in a six-goal thriller
Shabana FC was handed a taste of their own medicine after losing a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 in an enthralling league tie against APS Bomet, played on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Just as in the goal-fest first-leg encounter between the two sides, the second leg, pitting two experienced Kenyan trainers, Sammy Omollo against Peter Okidi, proved full of drama, with goals at both ends wrapping up an entertaining round of Football Kenya Premier League Week 18 action.
Philemon Nyakwaka gave the hosts a comfortable lead after scoring with their first attempt at goal. The lead lasted just 19 minutes before Brian Olega restored parity with his goal to take proceedings level at the break.
Olega restored the visitors’ lead three minutes after the restart as APS Bomet took the advantage for the first time.
Michira on the goals
Brian Michira, who recently marked his return to action, then joined the goal fest with a superb strike just after the hour mark. Stunned by the two quick goals and staring at a home defeat, Sammy Omollo’s Pamzo side showed they had learned from their heartbreaking late loss against AFC Leopards, sparking a stunning fightback to salvage a point.

The double substitution of Evans Kipkemoi and Dickson Mwangi proved influential for the side, who had been reduced to ten men after Chris Wilunda was sent off.
The comeback came against all odds, with the hosts serving the same revenge of a late goal that they had suffered against Leopards, this time inflicting it on the Kericho Green visitors.
APS Bomet’s fight back
Lawrence Kibet sparked the 12-minute comeback by halving the deficit in the 82nd minute, setting the stage for a nervy finish for the visitors.
Substitute Philip Wasai ensured the share of the spoils with a priceless equaliser six minutes later, sending the home fans into a frenzy.
The draw denied Sammy Omollo’s charges maximum points that would have seen the Gusii side leapfrog Kakamega Homeboyz and move within touching distance of the leading pair of AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia.
Bandari held
In another clash, Bandari FC failed to break down a determined Kariobangi Sharks side as the two battled to a goalless draw at Mbaraki Sports Club. The result saw the Sharks claim a crucial point on the road, while Bandari failed to build on their recent turn of form.
Elsewhere, Police FC also picked up maximum points as Mathare and Posta Rangers settled for a one-all draw.
